The work itself
Kindness, not advice.
Counselling gives you a safe, supportive, non-judgemental space to talk about what is going on in your life and how you are feeling. During a session I really listen to you, and help you explore the feelings behind your words. I trust in your ability to live your own life and make your own decisions — my focus is to help you put into words what is troubling you, and to find your own solutions. I will not try to influence you to do things my way.
People come to counselling for all sorts of reasons — anxiety, panic attacks and stress; depression and low mood; anger; bullying at school or work; grief and loss; low self-esteem; personal growth and assertiveness; relationship, marriage and separation difficulties; the aftermath of childhood abuse, neglect or domestic violence; sexual abuse and trauma; and suicidal thoughts or suicide bereavement. Some people think that asking for help is a sign of weakness, but nothing could be further from the truth — if you are suffering physical pain you go to the doctor, and it should be just as natural to go to a counsellor if you are suffering emotional pain.
I work integratively — drawing on humanistic, psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approaches. My particular specialisation is trauma, using the Sensorimotor Psychotherapy model (Boulder, Colorado) and EMDR. CBT looks at the link between how we feel, think and behave, and can be very effective for anxiety, phobias, OCD, stress and depression. Whatever the work, the pace and direction are agreed with you.

Common questions
Frequently asked
Where can I find counselling in Wexford?+
RC Psychotherapy offers counselling in Gorey, Co. Wexford — a short drive from Enniscorthy, Arklow, Wexford town, Ferns and Courtown. Rosemary Chaney is an IACP-accredited counsellor and psychotherapist with a private practice serving clients across County Wexford and the wider south-east.
Do you offer counselling in Dublin?+
Yes. In addition to the Gorey practice, Rosemary sees clients for counselling and psychotherapy in Dublin. If Dublin is more convenient than travelling to Wexford, you can book Dublin sessions directly, and secure online sessions are also available anywhere in Ireland.
How do I find a psychotherapist near me in Ireland?+
The IACP directory (iacp.ie) lists accredited counsellors and psychotherapists near you. Rosemary Chaney is IACP-accredited (since 2005) and offers in-person sessions in Wexford and Dublin, plus secure online psychotherapy nationwide — so 'near you' can mean your local office or your own home.
Can my GP refer me to counselling, or do I self-refer?+
You do not need a GP referral. Most clients self-refer directly by phone (087 458 0150), email or the enquiry form. A GP referral is welcome but not required, and no diagnosis is needed to start counselling.
How much does counselling cost in Wexford and Dublin?+
Individual counselling is €75 per 50-minute session in Gorey and online, and €85 in Dublin. Couples counselling is €100 for a 60-minute session. Full details are on the fees page.
What issues can counselling help with?+
Rosemary works with adults on anxiety, panic attacks and stress; depression and low mood; anger and aggression; bullying at school or work; grief, loss and bereavement; low self-esteem and confidence; personal growth and assertiveness; relationship, marriage and separation difficulties; the aftermath of childhood abuse, neglect or domestic violence; sexual abuse and trauma; and suicidal thoughts or suicide bereavement.
What is the difference between a counsellor, psychotherapist and psychologist?+
Counsellors and psychotherapists both provide talking therapy — psychotherapy is generally longer-term and works with deeper patterns, while counselling often focuses on a specific issue. Psychologists have a different training route (psychology degree + doctorate) and may also carry out formal assessments. Rosemary is a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist (MA in Humanistic & Integrative Psychotherapy, IACP-accredited), and works integratively across both.
Do you offer CBT, EMDR or trauma therapy?+
Yes. Rosemary is trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), EMDR (Europe Standard), and is a graduate of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (Levels 1 & 2, Boulder, Colorado) — a body-based trauma model. Her particular specialisation is trauma support, drawing on all three approaches alongside a humanistic, integrative core.
How long does counselling take?+
Sessions are 50 minutes. Some clients come for a few weeks to work through a specific issue; others attend longer term for deeper trauma or relational work. The pace is agreed together and you are always free to stop when it feels right.
Is what I say kept confidential?+
Yes. Everything discussed is confidential, within the standard IACP ethical limits (risk of serious harm to yourself or others, or a legal requirement to disclose). These limits are explained fully in your first session before any work begins.
Do you offer online counselling in Ireland?+
Yes — secure video counselling is available nationwide across the Republic of Ireland if you can't easily get to Gorey or Dublin, live rurally, work unusual hours, or simply prefer to meet from home.
How do I book a first counselling session?+
Use the Book a session button on this page, call 087 458 0150, or email info@rcpsychotherapy.ie. Rosemary replies personally, usually within one working day, and will help arrange a first session that suits you.
Ready when you are.
