## What this is
Two validated screening questionnaires used every day by GPs and mental-health professionals:
- **PHQ-9** — nine questions on symptoms of depression over the last two weeks. Score 0–27.
- **GAD-7** — seven questions on symptoms of generalised anxiety over the last two weeks. Score 0–21.

Scoring happens entirely inside your browser. Nothing is transmitted or saved unless you deliberately email the result to Rosemary.

## Score bands
**PHQ-9 (depression):** 0–4 minimal · 5–9 mild · 10–14 moderate · 15–19 moderately severe · 20–27 severe.
**GAD-7 (anxiety):** 0–4 minimal · 5–9 mild · 10–14 moderate · 15–21 severe.
PHQ-9 question 9 (thoughts of being better off dead / self-harm): any positive answer warrants immediate follow-up regardless of total score.

## FAQs
**What is the PHQ-9?** A nine-item screener for depression symptoms over the past two weeks; scores 0–27.
**What is the GAD-7?** A seven-item screener for generalised anxiety symptoms over the past two weeks; scores 0–21.
**Is it private?** Yes — scored in your browser; nothing is sent anywhere unless you choose to share it.
**Is it a diagnosis?** No — it is a screening tool and conversation starter, not a substitute for a professional assessment.
**How long does it take?** Around 3–5 minutes for both.
**What do the scores mean?** See "Score bands" above.
**I scored high — what next?** Book a first session, share the result by email, speak to your GP, or contact the crisis lines listed above.
**I scored low but still don't feel right — is that valid?** Yes. PHQ-9/GAD-7 only capture specific symptoms; grief, trauma, relationship difficulty and burn-out may not show up in the score.
**Can I use it for my teenager?** For under-18s we recommend booking a teen counselling session so results can be interpreted in context.
**Do I need to sign up?** No — no account, no tracking of answers.
**Can I print my result?** Yes — a print / save-as-PDF button is provided after scoring.
**Available in Dublin and Wexford?** Yes — in-person in Dublin and Gorey (Co. Wexford), plus online across Ireland.
**Fees?** Individual €85 Dublin / €75 Gorey / €75 online (50 min). Couples €100 (60 min).
**Provenance:** PHQ-9 and GAD-7 developed by Drs. Spitzer, Williams, Kroenke and colleagues with an educational grant from Pfizer Inc. Public domain (1999).
**Should I retake it later?** Many clients re-take every 2–4 weeks to track progress.
